WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION GUIDELINES ON SALT INTAKE IN ADULTS AND CHILDREN
Abstract:
In 2012, the World Health Organization (WHO) developed a guideline on the optimal sodium intake in both adults and children, with a view to reduce blood pressure and the risk of cardiovascular disease, coronary diseases, strokes. This guideline was developed based on systematic reviews and meta-analyses of a solid body of evidence showing a direct link between sodium intake and blood pressure. This guideline also includes evidence on the possible negative effects of a low-sodium intake.
