ACUTE COMPARTMENT SYNDROME OF THE UPPER EXTREMITY – CASE REPORT
Abstract:
Compartment syndrome is a condition in which the pressure of a compartment increases and untreated on time it can lead to serious complication such as ischemia and necrosis. We present the case of a 33-year-old man with an acute compartment syndrome, developed after a trauma. Clinical examination shows that the left hand and forearm were edematous and under pressure, the radial and ulnar pulses were barely palpable. Fasciotomies were performed to decompress the compartments and then latissimus dorsi free flap was used in order to cover postoperatory defect. After the surgical intervention and medication the outcomes were good.
