THE ADDITIONAL MECHANICAL RETENTION OF LARGE ADHERENT RESTORATIONS ON VITAL TEETH – TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS
Abstract:
Large adherent restorations frequently need additional mechanical retention. The vital teeth may require the use of retention pins whose application require technical skills and good knowledge of the morphology of the tooth. This study compares the technical features, advantages and disadvantages of the application of self-threaded titanium pins and cemented fibreglass pins. The application of the restorative material is also analyzed, the standard technical steps having specific variations according to the type of the inserted pin.
