THE EXISTING CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THE LEG’S INJURY AND CHRONIC COMPLICATIONS IN A GROUP OF PATIENTS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS
Abstract:
One of the must serious and costly chronic complications of diabetes mellitus is diabetic foot, with their very important conditions: ulcer and amputation 40-70% of non traumatic amputation of lower limbs are due to diabetes. Despite proper therapy, these severe ulceration and infection can head to a long period of hospitalization, amputation and premature death.In order to establish the therapeutic response of the diabetic foot wound, we performed a study in Diabetic Clinic of the County Hospital Sibiu. We enrolled 368 pacients in the study. The aim of the study was to identify risk factors in patients undergoing amputation, and to review the value of a multidisciplinary setting cosisting of podiartrtist, orthopedic surgeon, diabetes specialist and nurs.Important risk factors are foot ulcers, foot deformities, neuropathy, bad metabolic control and ischaemia, which have to be treated aggressively to avoid invalidating amputation..
