THE IMMUNE RECONSTITUTION INFLAMMATORY SYNDROME (IRIS)
Abstract:
The Immune Reconstitution Inflamatory Syndrome (IRIS) occurs in HIV-infected patients initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART), where in spite of imunological improvement, comes out clinical worsening. Global incidence according to retrospective studies varies between 17-32%.The multiple diseases associated with IRIS in HIV-infected patients may consist of infectious (Mycobacteria, viruses, bacterias, protozoars) or noninfectious etiologies (rheumatologic/autoimmune diseases, lymphomas).Because thus far there is no concord concerning exact treatment and preventing IRIS, and ethiology and clinics are variable, treatment of IRIS for HIV-infected patients initiating ART remains a challenge.
