THE IMPORTANCE OF MOTIVATIONAL PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELLING IN THE SURGICAL TREATMENT OF CAPITELLAR FRACTURES
Abstract:
The hereby study aimed at establishing the importance of motivational psychological counselling in the recovery therapy for capitellar fractures that had been subject to surgery. 42 cases under surgical treatment were observed with a view to assess the functional results. All these cases were subject to open reduction and Herbert screw fixation. The 42 monitored cases were divided into 2 study batches, so as to maintain equivalent fracture trajectories for both batches (the prognosis was homogenized for the 2 studied batches). In conclusion, analysing the functional results for this batch of patients, the following may be asserted: cases that were provided psychological counselling had a strictly better evolution than the witness batch (p = 0.02); the deterioration in the MAYO score for the witness batch is a marker for the perception of the personal evaluation of functional recovery by each patient in the study.
